Access Levels and Privileges for WS.WebTV 2.2+

Since version 2.2, WS.WebTV has a very flexible privilege system. It is possible to create privilege sets allowing/disallowing the access of the Users to the different sections of the Content Administrator. You can create any number of privilege sets per access level and assign the desired access level + privilege set to each User. On top of the previous, it is also possible to sell the privilege sets (corresponding to Author and Contributor access levels) as "memberships" (Store extension required).

What is a privilege set?
A privilege set is a "definition" layer which is added to the Access Levels; it allows finer control over the sections of the Content Administrator that can be managed/accessed by an User.

Overview of the privilege availability differences between Access Levels
• Webmaster (Super User): The "Super User" is the first User (ID = 1) which is created when the WebTV is installed. It has unrestricted access to all sections and content of the WebTV and is not affected by privileges.
• Webmaster: May have access to everything - Since WS.WebTV 3.0.5, these privilege sets can only be managed by the "Super User".
• Admin: May have access to everything except the Configuration section. Note that Admins can't manage Webmaster or other Admin Users.
• Author: May only have access to Channels, Clips, Galleries, News & Events, Scheduler sections; additionally, it may have access to its User profile edit screen.
• Contributor: Just like Author but the content created by Contributors require moderation in order to be publicly available.
• Subscribers: May only have access to its User profile edit screen.
NOTE: For detailed information on available privileges for each Access Level check the table you'll find below.

Managing privilege sets
You can manage the privilege sets from Configuration > Privileges or from Users > More > Privilege Sets.

Privilege sets examples
The following examples illustrate the use of privilege sets:
Example 1: Let's suppose you just want to grant the Access to the Configuration > Settings section to a specific User. Well, it is possible to create a privilege set for the "Webmaster" Access Level where the only allowed section is Configuration > Settings; then you just need to assign that privilege set to the desired User.

Example 2: Let's suppose you want that some Contributors can only create/manage Standard Clips. Well, it is possible to create a privilege set for the "Contributor" Access Level where you only allow the access to the Clips section and disallow all Clip types except "Standard"; then you just need to assign that privilege set to the desired User.

Default privilege sets and "Super User"
Each Access Level (Webmaster, Admin, Author and Contributor) has a default privilege set. The default privilege sets can't be deleted but can be edited as desired; although the previous, the User with ID 1 and access level "Webmaster" (the User created during the installation of the WebTV) is a "Super User"; this means that, as indicated above, it will always have access to everything; even if you have modified (to made it more restrictive) the default privilege set for the Webmaster access level. It is worth noting that the "Super User" can not be modified nor deleted by any other User.

"Super User" and the Backup functionality
Since WS.WebTV 3.0.5, the Backup functionality is available. Because this feature allows downloading all WebTV files (including the Database), it can only be used by the "Super User". In fact, the Backup notifications will be sent to the "Super User" E-Mail and not to the general notification E-Mail.

Master Password and the "Super User"
Note that since WS.WebTV 3.0.5, the master password can only be set by the "Super User".

Hiding the "Super User" in the Back-End
Since WS.WebTV 3.0.5 it is possible to configure the WebTV so that other Webmaster users can't see the "Super User" in the Back-End. This is specially useful when you are deploying WebTVs for clients and want to retain control of the full system by reserving the "Super User" account for you and hiding yourself from the clients account (which would probably be a Webmaster account).
NOTE: The activity of the super user will continue appearing in the log files. Therefore, you may want to disable the Statistics > Logs privilege set for Webmasters.
When super user invisibility is enabled, it will be invisible (to other Webmasters/Admins) in:
- Users
- Users > Reassign Content Ownership
- Users > Export Users Content Ownership
- Clips/Channels > Edit / User Statistics
- Clips/Channels > Edit / Users Watching
In order to hide the "Super User" in the Back-End you must add the following variable to the WebTV configuration file (config/Config.inc.php):
$CMS_HIDE_SUPER_USER_ACCOUNT = true;

Content creation limits
It is worth mentioning that it is possible to specify content creation limits; for example, the max. number of Clips, Channels, etc. or the max. size of uploaded video files.
Since WS.WebTV 3.0.3, the content creation limits are specified in the privilege sets or individually, per User.
For versions of WS.WebTV 3.0.2 or older, the content creation limits are specified from Configuration > Settings > Users / (Author/Contributor) Content Creation Limits or individually, per User.

Access level on Front-End registration
Please note that you can select the Access Level assigned to Users registered through the Front-End from Configuration > Settings > Users.

Access Level + Privileges for WS.WebTV up to 2.1.0.1

On previous versions of WS.WebTV, the privileges are predefined and it is only possible to do minor (global) adjustments by editing the templates.

Overview of the privilege differences between Access Levels
• Webmaster: May have access to everything.
• Admin: May have access to everything except the Configuration section. Note that Admins can't manage Webmaster or other Admin Users.
• Author: May only have access to Channels, Clips, Galleries, News & Events, Scheduler sections; additionally, it may have access to its User profile edit screen.
• Contributor: Just like Author but the content created by Contributors require moderation in order to be publicly available.
• Subscribers: May only have access to its User profile edit screen.

"Super User"
The User with ID 1 and access level "Webmaster" (the User created during the installation of the WebTV) is a "Super User"; this means that it will always have access to everything; additionally, this User can not be modified nor deleted by any other User.

Access level on Front-End registration
